GivePower and ServiceNow Partner to Bring Solar-Powered Desalination to Mtwapa, Transforming Lives with Safe Drinking Water

Mtwapa, Kenya—GivePower, in collaboration with ServiceNow, is pleased to announce the successful installation of a new Solar Water Farm Max in Mtwapa, Kenya. This transformative project will produce up to 75,000 liters of clean drinking water daily, tackling the region’s enduring water scarcity and contamination challenges.

Mtwapa, a bustling coastal town in Kenya and home to approximately 90,000 people, has long faced significant challenges accessing clean and safe water. Many residents, who work in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and construction, have had to rely on unsafe water sources, leading to widespread health risks and economic strain. This community stands to benefit immensely from GivePower’s solar-powered desalination system, which provides a sustainable and life-changing solution to these persistent challenges.

“Our partnership with ServiceNow reflects our shared commitment to empowering communities like Mtwapa,” says Hayes Barnard, Founder, Chairman & CEO of GivePower. “Together, we are not just providing clean water but creating opportunities for this region to grow, thrive, and prosper.”

Each Solar Water Farm utilizes solar energy to desalinate either sea or brackish water sources. In addition to removing salt, the systems also eliminate other contaminants such as bacteria to create reliable, affordable sources of clean drinking water for communities in need. The systems are designed to remain operational and produce clean water for more than 100,000 people for 20 years.

Access to clean water is considered one of the largest challenges facing the world today. More than 1.42 billion people, including 450 million children, live in areas of high or extremely high water vulnerability. GivePower’s Solar Water Farms are cutting-edge technological solutions capable of producing 10,000 to 75,000 liters of water per day. The operations are fully independent of any local electrical grid and run entirely on clean energy. GivePower’s model has won multiple international awards, including the prestigious Energy Globe Award in Kenya.
